Owl City - Fireflies

The song 'Fireflies' focuses on the idea that the simple things in life are the best, and that life goes to quickly for people to see them. The video consists of a man/teenager playing the keyboard in his room and the music makes all the toys and brightly coloured objects in his room come to life. The video consists mostly of close up shots of the lead singer in the video and all of the objects that have come to life in his room. The concept of the video and the camera shots/angles make the audience remember being a child which is usually the best time in a persons life. Also, a child usually can think of something simple as amazing and spend hours playing with a toy or looking at a certain object, which reinforces the idea of the song. The lights and colours that all the separate objects emit also help the room look 'mystical' and 'bright', linking with the title of the song 'Fireflies'. The way the lead singer is dressed is simple, in pyjamas, which gives the idea the singer is no one of importance who has dreams and ambitions like anyone else. The video can also show the song linking in with a persons dreams as 'light' is linked with idea and good feelings, so the song could be portraying the writers inspiration and how he got started as a musician. I enjoy the video because I think although it contrains little effects its interesting to watch. The video contains nothing more than toys and bright coloured lights and due to the lyrics its almost as if the writer leaves the audience to interpret the song themselves, like a piece of art.
